Online Photo Editing: Psykopaint, PicMonkey, Sumopaint, BeFunky, and Adobe Photoshop Express Editor

Psykopaint

Pyskopaint's site had a dark look to it, but so unique showing a collage gallery of different paintings, drawings, and so on created by users from the site that you can simply click on to view.  It has a funky modern side to it that I like.  Psykopaint is a lot different from the norm of photo editing sites and more so focused on art with painting and drawing.  My favorite part about it is, it shows a list of all the famous painters style of painting with each stroke of the brush and I find that pretty fascinating.  I played around with it using Seurat which is based off the famous French painter Georges-Pierre Seurat.  He was famous for the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (Fun facts, eh? :D):

I really love seeing the texture and strokes when I painted across the page.  It felt like I was really using acrylic or oil painting.  Painting alone gives me a sense of peace and relaxation.  I just really loved using this site.  It also had customization to each style of painting:

If you were to save your work on Pyskopaint, you just can't do it without having to sign-up (Laaaame, just kidding), yet I ended up doing that through Facebook -_-.  It's kind of cool with how they setup using the site with tokens without having to pay.  The more you spread the news about their site and the more you use this site overall, the more tokens you get.  Then you can publish it and notice the community this site provides with different artists:

Oh and you can also pick your resolution of your art:

PicMonkey

PicMonkey's site as soon as it loaded, looked really nice.  It has much more to offer with effects, the interface of the site with the menus is well organized showing a sample of what the effect will be.  It provides simple touch-up tools like teeth whitening, weight-loss, clone, etc.  It has the basic edit tools with cropping, rotate, exposure, etc.  Simple and easy photo editing within a one click of your mouse.  The only problem with it is, you have to be a "Royale" member for full effects.  It shows all these lovely effects, but then notice the next effect next to it shows a crown.  You have to pay $4.99 a month, or $33 a year (that works out to $2.75 a month for minimum pay).

In the picture below, once you play around on the site you will notice you can't apply all effects and touch-ups without upgrading.  Anything with a crown on the picture will not apply for free.

They have pretty nifty tools like make-up and then effects for Halloween...ahem..zombie effects!  Too bad you only have a limit of effects to use without upgrading.  There is no desktop app for it, the only thing I could find is downloading it as a browser extension for Chrome.  I like the site, it does what it needs for basic plus unique effects.  And of course, it's all simplified for anyone to try.

Sumopaint

Sumopaint, I believe is the closest thing to a real photo editing site.  It's more like Adobe Photoshop or Gimp, but not as advanced unless you upgrade I assume with the more tools you get.  Even if the free account doesn't have all the advance tools, it is simplified for all users to understand more easily in my opinion.  Sort of like a "lite" version of photoshopping made easy for anyone.  Sumopaint is all web-based and there is no desktop program to download until you upgrade to Pro Plus membership. Here's a painting I did on there which was all simple and easy using the tools:

I believe Sumopaint will a bit difficult to start out on if you have never ever used a photoshop tool that is as advance as this, but if you mess around with it, you'll get the hang of it.  There is membership prices included and from the look of it, you'll get even more tools included

Here's the interface with the tools and as you notice you can get a mobile app with iPad only (WTH..I hope that changes.) You can install the browser extension of Sumopaint on Chrome.  It really provides all the basic needs you want to tweak your pictures or for creating art.

BeFunky

Befunky is the same as PicMonkey to me, but the interface isn't as flashy to me as PicMonkey.  That's okay though because BeFunky provides just as much effects and touch-up tools for free without having to upgrade.  I have used BeFunky for awhile as a mobile app and have always been happy with it.  I prefer it more than PicMonkey just because it's all free just for the photo effects and that's all that matters to me really.  If one is willing to upgrade, here are the other two offers:

I really liked the effects that I used on the pictures.  It doesn't look cheap and I just overall love them.  It's just as easy like PicMonkey, you can tweak the effects of its opacity, more sparkle, more bubbles, highlights, shadows, etc.  I prefer BeFunky over PicMonkey just because it offers more for free and their tools are pretty nice.

Photoshop Express Editor Online

Photoshop Express Editor Online is completely different from the desktop version and mobile as well.  It just gives the basic needs of editing a photo.  It just seems plain and really basic to me.  It didn't stand out as much as the others did, but it does what it needs to do overall in a simplify way.  I do enjoy the mobile app because it provides more effects and even a lot more if you pay for the app.

You can add little graphics that kind of reminds of clip art pictures in Microsoft Office haha.  I added a few graphics to my dog.  Even if it looks goofy, you can change the opacity to make it look sort of realistic.

When it comes to quick photo editing that features touch-ups and tools, I would overall pick BeFunky.  When it comes to quick advance photoshopping, I'd pick Sumopaint because out of all the others it provides the "photoshop" esque.  For more of an artistic approach that is the closest thing to real painting, I would pic PsykoPaint which I found pretty awesome.  I know I'll continue to use PsykoPaint for making art online.

Critiquing Blogs!

For class, I'm going to look over the whole entire list of blogs from my classmates.  Some may need a bit of critiquing while some may not need as much.  I'll be looking over each page and give an opinion among each and every one of them.  No hatin' here :)

Pictures of using the programs would be nice just to show you have played around with the programs/apps.  Using skitch to point out dislikes or likes would be nice too.

I really like the background especially with fall here with the colors warm and welcoming. I like how he provides information about himself which is always a good start to let the readers get to know a person. I feel like maybe have the layout a bit more compact, but overall nice blog.

_________________________________________________________________________

I really like how organized the blog is and the template is pretty nice.

There should be an "About Me" section on the side, just to give the readers an idea of who you are real quick.  I like the different columns especially the "Popular Posts."  I like the title headings below. You used Skitch and posted pictures using the the programs which is helpful.  Overall, great job.

3. Alexis' Blog
There should also be a title for the blog. The template seems a bit dark, maybe could use a little more color. Need to use more pictures interacting with the apps and programs to compare the difference of what you like and what not.

The pictures in one blog wouldn't load at all, might be a broken link.  Add more info about yourself.  Nice job!

4. Ted's Blog
http://computertechsystems.blogspot.com/

I like the transparent background with the water droplets, look realistic with glass. He added pictures on comparing other programs and I can see he used Skitch. The title of the blog needs a little more oomph.

Add a little more info in "About Me." Overall, nice looking blog!

Robert'sBlog
http://redwingrob.blogspot.com

I like the title of the blog and the font used for it in cursive. The background layout is nice and transparent.  It gives it an artsy look.  I like the add-ons on the right side of the blog with YouTube and the news.  Gives readers something to do while checking out the blog.

In the blogs, pictures should be added of him using the programs and apps comparing them all. The green font that is all capitalize bothered my eyes for a bit. Other than that, great job!

6. James' Blog
http://jamesnhill.blogspot.com/

The first thing I noticed about James' blog is the template layout.  I always like transparent backgrounds. The template gives it a nice comforting feel. I noticed his profile was towards the bottom and should be brought up to the top.

I noticed with the blogs he didn't use any screenshots of comparisons between the programs that were used to test out (Google Drive Vs. SkyDrive & OpenOffice Vs. Libre). I like the graphics used for the critique of the blogs. Great job!

7. Tyler's Blog
http://jimison0tyler.blogspot.com/

With Tyler's blog, first thing I noticed was the title and the picture.  I find it humorous and interesting.  The blog seems a bit dark and plain, but has really thorough blogs written.

I noticed there were no pictures used interacting with the programs that were assigned for the class to play around with on there.  Nice blog though, he thoroughly wrote well-written blogs on the products and himself.

8.
Jane's Blog
http://janiegirls.blogspot.com/

I really like the background of Jane's blog.  She should add a picture of herself for her profile. I like how she uses a lot of pictures representing the programs used for class, but needs more interacting with them.

The pictures and the text just need to be aligned better and more organized to make it easier to read.  Nice blog, the pictures bring more attention to me as I looked through it.

9. Scotty's Blog
http://thephoenixhub.blogspot.com/

The blog is a bit dark it seems.  Nice that he used pictures comparing the products.  Needs to add a picture of himself on his profile.  He needs to catch up on his blogs too it seems.

The picture here is going off the edge of the column, but that's an easy fix in the layout menu customizing the width.  Nice job on making lists on pros and cons of the programs.

10. Amber's Blog
http://amberdawnzie.blogspot.com

I really like the background and the simplicity of it in a classy way.  It's nice she added a picture to it, but I can't seem to find her profile.

The blogs are written thoroughly and organized. Just need to catch up on the blogs.

11. Chris' Blog
http://whittstopher.blogspot.com/

I once again like the transparent background here.  He needs to add more pictures interacting with the programs using Skitch.

Great blog post on something personal that happened to you.  Free Snapple stuff! I'm sorry you took a bit of a drink from that fuzzy nucleus lookin' goodness, haha.

12. Chris B's Blog

http://lordsfallenpaladin.blogspot.com/

I noticed the background template dark, but in all honesty it matches up with his username "Fallen" along with the graphics which is nice.  It's nice he added a picture of himself.

I like how he added gadgets on the side of different type of news especially towards computer tech.  Good job on adding pictures and using Skitch comparing programs.

This critique was done for class assigned by my teacher in IT104.  I mostly notice that some blogs were plain and simple with no color to it or pictures that bring to my attention, but the good thing about it is there's always a way to fix that.  Hopefully, it benefits the others on a positive note!

4 Must Have Browser Extensions

Assuming we all have moved on from Internet Explorer in this day and age and no longer use it, the top competing browsers would be FireFox, Google Chrome and Opera. And if for any reason you have not then now would be the time to do it. Firefox and Chrome have a large amount of extensions to use for your everyday needs. Internet Explorer does, but it's extensions come nowhere as close as the numbers that Chrome and FireFox have. If you haven’t moved on from IE, then do it. Assuming you have, let’s begin.

1.  Adblock Plus
Adblock Plus, Probably the first extension I download each time I get on a fresh install of a new browser or what I install on other people’s computer. Nobody likes ads. They hog up the screen, they blink and flash and tempt our epilepsy. And then you get the ones that bounce around the page, skipping like Richard Simmons. Adblock Plus takes care of that. It trims the pages down, lets you view with ease. An older pc’s and slower connections, you no longer have to wait for the page  to load so slow due to the embedded flash ads, embedded videos, and animated pictures. This is where Adblock truly shines.

2. Unbaby.me
Unbaby.me has prevented me from literally screaming at people. I work with the public, I hear crying kids all day, every day. It gets old. So when I come home and get on Facebook the last thing I want to see is the posts from the person who takes 50 pictures of their baby or children and posts them one by one. Yes, I could block you from my wall, but I might miss you posting something decent from time to time. And When I can just block everybody from posting this it makes it even better instead of singling out people and then finding yet another chronic poster.

3. Social Fixer
Social Fixer is a nice extension for facebook with many uses. It can organize your entire wall, group posts together into certain categories and it can also block annoying posts from never showing up. I have put this to good use to block the annoying political posts from users or the users who have to give me a status update every 5 minutes. No, we don’t care about your latest jog nor do we care to have your political or religious views shoved down our throats. Thank you social fixer!

4. The Great Suspender
If you are using a lower end computer, this is a life saver. And in some cases, those higher end pc’s can use this too. If you are like me, you more than likely keep a lot of tabs open while browsing. I’m usually reading news articles, doing research for homework or hobbies, and also browsing forums.  After a while, having all of those tabs open will hog many of your systems precious resources. The Great Suspender performs like it’s name suggests, it suspends those tabs you are not using and saves your resources.  A must have those late nights while in college and doing your research.
